Revision Game: Ancient Medicine Monopoly

This game uses the format of a Monopoly board as the basis to provide an adaptable and engaging revision exercise. The game uses questions to challenge rent fees and correct/ incorrect answers determine the outcomes. The game comes with a set of questions on Medicine in the Ancient World. This provides a base of understanding that can be built upon over the teaching of the Medicine element of GCSE History.

Rules for the game are included in this TES Recommended resource. In classroom use pupils have been encouraged to create their own question cards as teaching progresses. This has proven very successful as the act of creating the materials themselves reinforces their retention of the knowledge and enjoyment of the game. With that in mind, I’d recommend providing pupils with the included rules but allowing them to amend them and add questions.

Reading materials for revising Medicine Through Time can be found on Schoolshistory.org.uk. These teacher produced pages provide the narrative that pupils need to understand to answer the questions in the revision game and to develop their awareness of the medical beliefs and practises in place at various points in time.
